Textilkonst

The studio in Vaxholm

Lisa Karlsson is a Stockholm-based artist, residing in a small coastal community where the Swedish capital breaks into the Baltic archipelago. Every morning she takes the ferry to a small neighbouring island, where her studio is set up in an old, weather-beaten naval outpost girded by a dry moat. Here, the sharp seasonal vicissitudes, lowing ships and stray floes of ice provide the tranquility she needs to work with her patchworks.

"Writing is stitching words together, hoping that the text as a whole will somehow mysteriously surpass its discrete parts, in grandeur as well as meaning. You can never be certain; there's an infinite supply to choose from. It's all about some kind of intuition, a knowing that certain words fit others better, yielding sentences of more pith."

A text by Anders Krüger comparing her work to writing
